MGL Wealth Management Ltd teamed up with Mitchells Grievson Chartered Accountants to host the second annual charity golf day in aid of Children with Cancer.
Over the past few years both Director Barry and Practice Manager Andrew have contributed to raising substantial funds for the Children with Cancer charity from both running London marathon to supporting charity ball’s and comedy night’s that have raised funds. Additionally they have helped organise and marshalled at charity fun runs held at Darlington South Park.
The event took place at Headlam Hall situated near Gainford, Darlington, a 9 hole golf course which was in immaculate condition. 5 teams of 4 golfers teed off hoping to win the inaugural team trophy.
Competition between team captains was fierce with defending champion Nigel Rea, Director at Mitchells Grievson, doing everything in his power to retain the trophy. Despite this Nigel’s team came up short and fellow Director Phil Harnby’s team took the spoils. The competition was very close with Phil’s team (including Craig Dixon, Michael Watson and Neil Collingwood) winning by a 2-shot margin.
The nearest to the pin competition took place on the beautiful hole 7, a 116-yard par 3 which is aptly named The Pond. A bottle of champagne was up for grabs so the pressure was clearly on. Casually dressed and short wearing Michael Kyle, who has recently undertaken a knee operation, hit a pitching wedge over the pond, pitching his ball to within 5ft of the hole to bag the bottle of bubbly.
Headlam Hall kindly donated a 6-month membership and we ran a football card to raise funds for the charity. Chris Hutchinson won the prize, however he kindly decided to auction the prize off to raise more funds for Children with Cancer. Lee Richards was delighted to win the auction as it raised extra funds for a great cause and he is also keen to rekindle his love for the game after not playing for many years. The golf day raised around £750 for the charity.
Barry and Andrew are members of Darlington Harriers and they decided to support their fund-raising efforts to raise much needed funds for Children with Cancer UK. Darlington Harriers hold several events throughout the year including a Charity Comedy Night, 5km Race plus several athletes including Barry and his wife Louise are running the Berlin marathon in September and many athletes have already ran the London Marathon. So far this year they have managed to raise almost £13,000 (including gift aid).
We would like to thank Isabel Evans, Keith Bateman, Peter Armstrong, David Sweetman, Michael Kyle, Lee Richards, Andy Metcalfe, Mark Elsdon, Phil Banks and Chris Hutchinson who attended as our guests and contributed to raising a considerable sum. Team photo’s can be found below along with action shots from the day.
Barry said: “It was good to support Darlington Harriers with their fund raising for Children with Cancer. Everyone really enjoyed the day and we raised much needed funds for Children with Cancer which is such a worthy cause. Myself, Louise and the rest of the athletes running Berlin are really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, I don’t think we will be anywhere close to World Record Holder Kipchoge but we will have a good go.”
